Journey towards 'Awareness'
It's been around a year I started on this path of holistic health driving inspiration from many around me and my own unrest with the life I was leading.
Out of all the achievements in my life nothing comes close to the satisfaction after every interaction I have with individuals whom I get the opportunity to guide and hold space for. I often get asked why not a clinic, why not be a conventional 'doctor' when I have the opportunity to treat diseases. Perhaps that is a larger unmet need in the society currently as per many individuals. but maybe that was not my calling.
Healthcare cannot be bound merely in medical treatment although that is the biggest and most important arm of healthcare, my deeper calling was for prevention of diseases. Of course not every disease can be prevented but many can be and need to be prevented. Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity as defined by WHO, it remains our fundamental right perhaps as important as our right to food, clothing and shelter. In the current scenario we have been so busy in the pursuit of the latter three that health has become a luxury or is take for granted. Health cannot be pursued in luxury retreats, escapes, peace of mind shouldn't be a weekend affair when we seek respite from the jobs or rather lives we live on weekdays.
I believe health needs to be a very personal affair higher than any other for the human life is sacred and needs to be nurtured by us over any other aspect only then can we pursue what we truly are capable of as health is not merely a physical wellbeing, it is but mental and social wellbeing. I have asked myself this question multiple times before and I want individuals to ask it to themselves as well; "Am I truly healthy?", if the answer is not clear, my idea is to break down the question further to understand what are the aspects that I don't truly feel healthy in and work on making it better as if one's life depends on it because it truly does.
As a doctor, I remember from the Oath of Hippocrates that "I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon's knife or the chemist's drug", thus from an artistic soul that I was I have taken this path to work holistically on aspects that one can nurture through one's own body's intelligence to first be truly aware of and then maintain the awareness towards health and wellbeing of the self and the larger society.
I am working on various modules, finding newer techniques, experimenting with ideas based on available evidence, scriptures and my own experiences. There is no one path other than "self awareness" and I wish to hold it at highest regard for myself and for people to theirs's. I shall continue on this journey filled with doubts, road blocks, adventure yet a deep satisfaction.
My currently motive is to spread this idea of "Self Awareness" and the teaching from Yoga Sutra which says, "The Pain that has not yet occurred, needs to be prevented" (Chapter 2, Sutra 16. Heyam-Dukham-Anagatam)
